CENTRAL CHIC GAY NEWSLETTER NUMBER 6
GAY LIB IN THE MEDIA
Gay Liberation has been receiving more and more attention from the straight press lately. In Columbus, the most recent outstanding spread was that of the Chio State Lantern of July 8th, when we full pages, plus. most of the editorial page (cartoon sympathetic to Gay Lib, editorial in favor of human rights for gays, interviews with students, and an article by the director of Ohic ACLU), and a banner page-one headline shook the university community. The demand for Lanterns was phenomenal. By afternoon it was impossible to find one. The gays of central Ohio have only one person to thank for this scoop-none other than our faithful coordinator, Jeff.
Opinion was split on the value of the Lantern's treatment of homosexuality and homosexuals. There was a lot of straight anti-gay bias and misinformation. Still, except for these faults, the Gay Lib feature was a triumph. But it must be only the beginning:
Jeff Arnold was interviewed on the 11 o'clock news on July 1st, and he is scheduled to appear on TV again (with others) on Sunday, July 25th, at 11:30 AM for a panel discussion. The public will be able to phone in questions for the panelists. This will be an excellent chance to reach the grassroots public directly-in their own homes. Maybe some straight viewers will see that we really are human after all. Let's hope so. (The interview will be on Channel 4. There will be a taped replay on Channel at 1 AM, Tuesday the 27th, after the Johnny Carson show. Tune in:)
The Columbus Citizen-Journal will feature Gay Liberation in the near future, probably in the coming week. Keep an eye out for it
